A homeless man in Gainesville, Mr. Jim, is about 70 yrs old. He’s at best 5’2” and weighs around 110 pounds. He’s as tiny as he can be and plum adorable!
Tonight after dinner at the plaza, I saw him off to the side reading a Bible. I went up to him and told him I liked the book he was reading. He looked at me and started weeping and then said, “I love reading my Bible. It’s the best book to read. I may be homeless, but I’m not hopeless.” He started crying harder. It was quite obvious that he was struggling with where he was at in life this night.
I hugged him and sat and talked with him as he cried. He kept repeating, “I love my Savior Jesus Christ.” Truly this is Psalm 34:18 “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
